Activity Exchange can host your Email Domain. Q. What is an Email Domain? A. An Email Domain is the right hand part of an Email Address, after the @ symbol. In MyClub@ActivityExchange.com "ActivityExchange.com" is the Domain Name part of the email address. (The first part is often called the Mailbox). Q. What is the significance of an Email Domain? A. All email that has the same email Domain Name will be sent to the same Email Server on the Internet (or group of them for large heavily used Domain Names). That Email Server then sorts out how to deliver it to the Mailbox which is specified in the first part of the email address. Q. What advantage is it having Activity Exchange host my Email Domain Name? A. If you do this then your email addresses, for your Email Groups and so on, can have your Domain Name on them instead of ActivityExchange.com. For example, instead of Activities.MyClub@ActivityExchange.com you could have the email address Activities@MyClub.org.uk. This is true for all email addresses that Activity Exchange handles for your Club. That is Email Groups, Personal and Official Email Addresses. Q. Are there any disadvantages? A. This is quite a committing thing to do. Once this change is made all the email sent to that Email Domain will have to go through Activity Exchange. You need to make sure this is what you want. Q. How hard or easy is this to set up? A. It is not simple but it is straightforward. First of all Activity Exchange and its email system need to be set up to accept emails for your emaul Domain Name. Then you need to arrange to have your emails sent to the Activity Exchange servers. This means contacting your ISP and getting them to alter the record for you Domain Name. Q. Please give me the technical detail of what I have to do? A. The DNS MX record for your Domain Name needs to be set to the IP Address of the Activity Exchange Email Server. Please don't arrange to do this without making sure that Activity Exchange is ready to receive your emails. Q. How do I initiate this? A. Please contact us to ask for this to be done. Q. So, what's the plan? A. 1. You contact Activity Exchange and say that you want email for your Domain Name to be handled by Activity Exchange. 2. Activity Exchange will contact you back to firm up on dates and what is required. 3. Needed changes will be made to the Activity Exchange Email Servers and tested. 4. You will be asked to go ahead and ask your ISP to make the change they have to do. 5. The change will be tested and monitored while it settles down. Q. Will the change be instant? A. It takes up to 48 hours for changes like this to propagate through the Internet. During this time email might go to either Activity Exchange or to whatever the old Email Servers were. This is normal. Q. How much does it cost? A. It is a free service. |
