Every Club on Activity Exchange now has an RSS feed. Q. What is an RSS feed? A. An RSS feed is a specially formatted set of data or information which can be easily read by most Internet Browsers or by special Feed Readers. Q. Where can I find the feed for my Club? A. If you look on your clubs Home Page you will see a little icon Q. What use is it? A. An RSS feed allows your Browser or Feed Reader to tell you when changes have been made. You don't have to keep visiting the site and looking for changes. Q. Are there any other uses for the RSS feed? A. Yes, your Activity Exchange RSS Feed can be used to drive an Activities or Events page on your club web site. It can be used to drive such pages on a Content Management System (CMS) such as Drupal or Joomla. Here is an example Joomla page for one club that uses Activity Exchange joomla. Q. Can Private information be seen? A. To see Private information you must be logged onto Activity Exchange. If you log on and then tick the "Remember Me" box then the RSS Feed will be able to let you have all the information about your clubs Activities. Q. Does the RSS Feed show all Activities? A. No. It shows all the Activities in the next 7 days or, if that is less than 10, it shows up to the next 10 Activities. Q. Does the Feed show Activity Invites? A. Yes it does. If you don't want these showing your Club needs to decline the invitation. This can be done by going to your Clubs Home Page and clicking on the "Activity Invites" link. Then you can deselect those Activities you want to decline. Q. Are there other ways of getting my Clubs Activities? A. Yes, you can use the Calendar download which use an Internet standard format to download Activities as Calendar items. This works with Outlook and many other email or Personal Information Managers. You can find out more here ics FAQ. Q. The RSS Feed does not contain all the information. Is there a better way? A. RSS Feeds are great because they are standard and so can be fed into lots of other systems. The format is not specifically for Activities and so cannot easily carry all the possible information. Activity Exchange also offers an XML Feed which is much more thorough but is not as widely used as RSS. You can find out more here XML FAQ. |
