Activity Exchange offers free web hosting. Q. How much Web Space can I have? A. As much as you reasonably need. Most clubs will only need a modest amount and up to 50MBytes will not be a problem. If you are using more than 50MBytes and we think that you might be using an excessive amount of web space then we'll discuss it with you and perhaps invite you to make a modest contribution if that would be appropriate. Q. How much Internet Traffic can I have? A. As much as you reasonably need. If you start to generate large and disproportionate amounts of internet traffic (which we have to pay for) then we will discuss it with you and perhaps invite you to make an appropriate contribution. Q. How do I get my Free Web Hosting? A. Simply advise us that you want to activate this option. Q. What Web Address will my Web Site have? A. By default your web site address will be based on your clubs Activity Exchange web address. For a club called "Erdington IVC" the clubs page on Activity Exchange will be at http://ActivityExchange.com/ErdingtonIVC. In this case the clubs web site will be at http://ActivityExchange.com/ErdingtonIVC/Home Q. Can I have my own Web Address for my Web Site? A. Yes you can. To do this you need to do three things.
Q. Is there an easier way to have my own Web Address? A. We can do it for you. We will only charge you what it costs us to do it. For a .org.uk Domain Name the cost (currently) will be about £10. If you want to take advantage of this please Contact Us Q. How can I upload my web pages? A. When we set up your Web Hosting we will also set up FTP Access so you can FTP your pages onto your Web site. This will be done using a non-standard port address. Q. How can I FTP with a non-standard Port Address? A. When using Internet Explorer you add the Port Address to the URL in the Address Bar. For example, if your port address was 999 and you wanted to access a site called ftp.com then you would use an address of ftp://ftp.com:999. Please also see this Microsoft article How to Connect to a Web or FTP Site Using Non-Default Port. Q. Can I use FrontPage Server Extensions? A. No, for security reasons. Q. Are there other programs I could use for FTP? A. Yes there are. FTPExplorer (http://www.ftpx.com) and CuteFTP (http://www.cuteftp.com) are two of the well known ones. Q. I can't FTP to my site, what's gone wrong? A. If your Internet Access is through a Proxy Server or a Firewall you might have difficulty FTPing. If your access is through a Proxy Server then you can try enabling PASV mode in your FTP program (don't know how to do this with Internet Explorer). If the problem is a Firewall then you may need to get advice from whoever looks after your firewall. Q. Can I run scripts? A. Yes you can. This hosting supports ASP pages. Q. Can I access my Clubs information on Activity Exchange? A. Yes you can. You need to be able to write ASP pages to do this and your access will be only to your own information. This is a major advantage of having your clubs web site hosted by us. It allows you to have your own customised pages however you want them. Q. Do I have to move all of my Web Site to the Activity Exchange Server? A. Not at all. You could only host certain pages on Activity Exchange which might be those that make use of the Club and Activity information held in the Activity Exchange database. Q. Can I send emails from forms on my web pages? A. Yes you can. Q. Can parts of my Web Site be Password Protected? A. Yes. For more information please see Secure Hosting. |
